Malacañang: Anti-terrorism bill to undergo final review

Malacañang has stated that the anti-terrorism bill will still undergo thorough study to review any provisions that may violate the Constitution.

“Alam niyo bagama’t it is certified urgent, hindi naman po automatic na pipirmahan ‘yan ng Presidente. Dadaan pa rin po ‘yan sa isang final review, para tingnan kung may mga probisyong labag sa Saligang Batas bago po pirmahan ng Presidente (Although it’s certified urgent, it does not mean that the President will automatically sign it. It will still have to undergo final review to check if there are provisions that violate the Constitution),” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has ensured.

The bill has been certified as urgent to strengthen the government’s response against terrorism.

The Palace added that the anti-terrorism bill is significant despite facing the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis because the threats to the country’s security are present. – PTV News
