Malacañang, AFP condemn NPA attack in Rizal

Malacañang and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) have condemned the recent attack of the New People’s Army (NPA) on military troops in Barangay Puray, Rodriguez, Rizal amid the declaration of ceasefire due to Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The attack occurred on March 28, the same day as President Rodrigo Duterte’s birthday.

According to AFP Chief of Staff General Felimon Santos Jr., about 30 members of the NPA attacked the Second Infantry Division troops while attending to community work at 12 PM, Saturday.

“One enemy was killed and we were also able to seize one M16 rifle, one grenade, and one rifle grenade. Though we suspect more losses from the enemy side considering the amount of bloodstains left in the encounter site. One of our soldiers paid the ultimate sacrifice while two others were wounded in this encounter.” Gen. Santos stated.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo insisted that the NPA mocks the declaration of ceasefire by the said attack and that it is clear the NPA does not think about the welfare of Filipinos.

“Let this be a warning to the enemies of the state that the constituted authorities are equipped and ready to repel any and all transgressions of law and crush any armed attack against our soldiers and civilians with ferocity and might. “ Presidential Spokesperson Panelo added.
