Malacañang encourages Filipino fishers to continue fishing in WPS

Malacañang on Thursday (May 20) encouraged Filipino fisherfolk to continue their fishing activities in the West Philippine Sea.

In a Palace press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque encouraged the fisherfolk following the Philippine protest against China’s implementation of the fishing ban in the WPS. He said that the fishing moratorium of Beijing has no basis in international law especially in Philippine territory.

“Wala pong extraterritorial application ng mga batas ng mga dayuhang bansa ‘no. So diyan lang po kayo sa ating mga tradisyunal na fishing grounds.”

Roque also assured the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to protect the interest of the fisherfolk in the area.
