Malacañang OKs half-day gov’t work on Holy Wednesday

By Darryl John Esguerra | Philippine News Agency

Malacañang has allowed government offices to implement a work-from-home setup from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and suspend work from noon onwards on Holy Wednesday.

This is to provide government employees the opportunity to travel and prepare for the Holy Week break.

“However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of vital services shall continue with their operations under usual working arrangements and render the necessary services,” the Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 81 read.

Meanwhile, the adoption of “work from home” and suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their employers.

Since the weekend and with most schools on vacation, travelers have already started heading to the provinces to observe Holy Week, which commemorates the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ through church services, processions and personal acts of penance.

The MC was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Monday.
