Malacañang reiterates that communist groups must cooperate with the government

Malacañang has reiterated that the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), New People’s Army (NPA), and National Democratic Front (NDF) must cooperate with the government in the fight against the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

CPP Founding Chair Jose Maria Sison has recommended a unilateral ceasefire on their side in response to the United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ call for a worldwide ceasefire due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This resulted to the Palace’s call for unity while in crisis.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, the government is continuously exerting efforts to stop the virus in the Philippines as soon as possible.

He added that President Rodrigo Duterte will sign Senate Bill No. 1418 or the “Bayanihan to Heal as One Act” which will extend his capacity to address the COVID-19 crisis in the country. – Report from Mela Lesmoras
