Man who jumps overboard on passenger vessel off Sibuyan, safe

SIBUYAN ISLAND, Philippines (02 October 2019)- The Coast Guard Sea Marshall Group rescued a male passenger named Carlito C. Cataylo, a 53 year old resident of Balayan, Batangas on board MV St Michael The Archangel who jumped overboard while underway from Manila bound for Dumaguete at approximately 8.3 nautical miles off Cresta de Gallo Island of Sibuyan last September 30.

Upon receipt of information from Mrs Marilyn Paucho, 60 year-old wife of the man overboard, the vessel immediately maneuvered and conducted search and rescue. At around 01:57 PM, the victim was successfully rescued by PO1 Richard Montiano PCG, duty sea marshall of the said vessel.

Investigation showed that Cataylo was under the influence of liquor when the incident transpired. The team immediately turned over the victim to the medical team onboard for medical attention.

Around 02:00 PM, the vessel resumed its voyage bound for Dumaguete.
