Mancao runs as party-list rep

MANILA — Former Senior Supt. Cezar Mancao II, one of the accused in the kidnap-slay of PR man Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Manuel Corbito, on Tuesday filed his Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance (CONA) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Manila under the Kilusang Maypagasa party-list.

Mancao, the party-list’s first nominee, said concern over the alleged “Red October” plot to overthrow the government, is one of the reasons that pushed him to file his nomination.

He said Kilusang Maypagasa is meant to push for more laws and peace and order, and advance the interests of police personnel.

The former police official said it his first time to run under a party-list but his second time to run for a congressional seat. He ran but lost as representative of the 1st District of Compostela Valley in the 2013 polls.

Meanwhile, former Pangasinan representative Gina de Venecia also filed her CONA under Inang Mahal party-list, an advocate of the welfare of Filipino mothers.

De Venecia said she was ready to retire but her son, re-electionist 4th District Rep. Christopher de Venecia, encouraged her to run.

Anakpawis party-list also filed its CONA with Rep. Ariel Casilao, who is seeking reelection, as well as former Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) secretary Rafael Mariano as nominees.

Mariano said the party-list seeks to scrap the tax reform law, and find a solution to the country’s rice woes, among other reforms.

A total of 45 party-lists have submitted their CONAs on the fourth day of filing on Tuesday, bringing the total to 115 organizations since the start of filing on October 11. ( Azer Parrocha/PNA)
