Marawi cop shot dead in Cebu

CEBU CITY — A policeman was gunned down by an unidentified assailant in broad daylight Tuesday while cruising aboard his motorcycle along M.J. Cuenco ave. near the Plaza Independencia here.

Police Officer 2 (PO2) Kenneth Pogoy, who was assigned in Marawi City, succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in his chest and other parts of body just before noon. He was 34.

Investigators said Pogoy just came from a court hearing at the Cebu City Hall of Justice before he was killed.

Recovered from the crime scene were several empty shells and a slug of a .9mm pistol, which investigators believe came from Pogoy’s service firearm.

Homicide investigator SPO3 Rommel Bancog said the assassination could be drug-related, but they are also looking into other possible angles.

A civilian, Edward Hinampas, was also hit by a stray bullet during the incident. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
