The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief PGEN. Rommel Francisco Marbil has ordered the new Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director, PBGEN. Nicolas Torre III, to lead a full-scale internal cleanup of the CIDG to restore its integrity and rebuild public confidence.
In a news release posted on the PNP’s Facebook page, Marbil conveyed his “complete trust” in Torre’s ability to address the challenges within the operational support unit.
“His proven track record shows his capability to confront these issues head-on, and I am confident he will take on this mission with unyielding commitment,” he said.
The PNP chief emphasized the CIDG’s critical role in maintaining the credibility of police investigations and ensuring that justice is served.
“The CIDG must set the highest standard of professionalism and ethical conduct,” he said.
Marbil tasked Torre to identify and eliminate internal issues or personnel who compromise the group’s integrity as complacency and misconduct have “no room” within the CIDG.
The PNP chief said he expects “swift and decisive action” from Torre on sweeping reforms, including stricter personnel screening, enhanced training, and rigorous oversight of all operations to ensure adherence to the highest ethical standards.
“The CIDG is at the core of our investigative efforts, and I’m confident that under Gen. Torre’s leadership, we will see a revitalized, more effective unit that will serve the public with honor and integrity,” Marbil said.
Torre formally assumed his role as acting director of the CIDG in a turnover ceremony at Camp Crame in Quezon City on Thursday.
He previously served as director of Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11), wherein he led the serving of the arrest warrant against Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and other co-accused individuals at the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City. —iro
