Marcos back from Davos, reports ‘beneficial outcomes’ from trip

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. reported Saturday afternoon, Jan. 21, that the Philippines’ participation at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland resulted in trade and investment opportunities.

In his arrival speech at the Villamor Air Base, Marcos said the WEF engagement offered the country a platform to share that its economy is leading in recovery and performance, as well as to discuss pressing issues affecting Filipinos.

“I am pleased with the progress we have made during our crucial participation in the World Economic Forum (WEF), a truly global multi-stakeholder platform,” he said.

“The trip has yielded beneficial outcomes relative to new trade and investment opportunities, and key partnerships forged to support our development program, a better appreciation for Filipino workers and professionals, and the promise of increased level of cooperation with various countries around the world,” he continued.

Marcos summarized some of the dialogues he and his economic team had attended, including the chief executive officers (CEO) Dialogue and the High-Level Dialogue on “Investing in Infrastructure for Resilience”

At the CEO forum, he presented the Philippines’ work across trade and investment, monetary and fiscal policies, food and energy security, climate action, structural reforms, digitalization, public-private partnerships, health and nutrition, education, and other social services.

He also mentioned the country’s Philippine Development Plan, 8-Point Socioeconomic Agenda, and other policies on economic reform.

“I took the opportunity as well to consult with our friends and partners in Davos on the sovereign wealth fund as a means for us to diversify our income sources, and to generate various welfare effects to the Filipino people, while recognizing that this is a collaborative work with experts and our lawmakers so that its final form is what we intend it to be,” Marcos said.

In his interview with the media, Marcos said his trip is also one of the chances to meet leaders from the Fortune 100 companies to seal important deals and gather investments.

He also met with the Filipino community from several parts of Europe in Zurich. AG
