Marcos mulls pursuing G2G fertilizer deals

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. is seeking to pursue government-to-government (G2G) talks to address the escalating prices of fertilizers in the country.

In a meeting at the Bureau of Soils and Water Management on July 18, Marcos said that the country should “take advantage” of the offer of other countries on buying fertilizers that set good prices in the market.

“Gusto tayong tulungan, gusto tayong lapitan, eh ‘di take advantage naman tayo, di’ba? Sige bigyan niyo kami ng maganda-ganda ang presyo,” he said.

He said that through sending letters to each country, he will be able to communicate regarding the procurement of fertilizers for the country.

China, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Russia are among the countries Marcos will try to send an appeal.

“I’m thinking it would be useful for us if sulatan ko silang lahat… And I’ll say that we are in the market to buy this volume of fertilizer,” he said.

Meanwhile, Marcos tasked agriculture officials to provide data, source of, and price of fertilizers including the distribution plan on planting season.

Marcos decided to lead the Department of Agriculture to address the looming food crisis and other issues in the agricultural sector. – ag
