Marineros Too Much for Mac “The Captain Hook” Cardona and Crew

PASIG CITY—Marinerong Pilipino secured a convincing 119-74 victory over Zark’s Burger Jawbreakers in the season-ending 2017 PBA D-League Foundation Cup at Ynares Arena on Tuesday.

Team Captain Mark Isip drove Marinero’s breakaway in the opening period, tipping 8 of his 12 points early on and added 6 rebounds to pave the way for the Skipper’s 2-game winning run, improving their record to a 3-4 win-loss card.

Isip led the Mariners to an 11-0 run giving an early cushion, 17-7, before stretching their biggest advantage at 45 in the final period.

“As the leader of this team, you want to rub off that you walk your talk so that your teammates can see it from you. It should start from you,” Mark Isip said.

Paolo Javelona was the top scorer for the Skippers uncorking 17 points, 7 dimes and 4 boards while John Lopez added 15 markers and 9 rebounds.

Meanwhile, former PBA standout Mac “Captain Hook” Cardona’s basketball comeback was smashed by the resilient Skippers, rubbing out his debut of bannering the Jawbreakers.

“We just want to break their spirit early on, pound them, and attack them. The players responded even if we found out that Mac Cardona was playing,” said coach Koy Banal.”

Robby Celiz commanded Zark’s with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while James Mangahas released 12 markers and 5 boards. Mark Cardona unleashed 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
