‘Mawar’ likely to intensify as severe tropical storm within 24 hours

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tropical Storm “Mawar” is expected to intensify as a severe tropical storm within 24 hours.

In its latest weather forecast on Sunday, May 21,, PAGASA Weather Forecaster Veronica Torres said the typhoon will enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Friday or over the weekend.

“Itong bagyong ito ay inaasahan na maaaring mag-intensify [bilang] isang typhoon in the next 24 hours,” Torres said.

“Sa kasalukuyan, itong si severe tropical storm Mawar ay walang direktang epekto sa kahit na anong bahagi ng ating bansa pero patuloy natin itong imo-monitor dahil itong severe tropical storm ay posibleng ma-enhance ang south westerly wind flow natin na sa kasalukuyang naaapektuhan itong kanlurang bahagi ng Luzon, Visayas, at also Mindanao,” she added.

Those residing in flood-prone areas are advised to stay updated on the latest rainfall advisories.
