Mayon Volcano unrest continues; Alert Level 3 still up

Lesser rockfall events were recorded in Mayon Volcano over the past 24 hours, the state volcanology bureau reported on Monday morning, July 3.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), about 295 rockfall events and three volcanic earthquakes were logged in the volcano.

Moreover, two dome-collapse pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) that lasted two minutes and two lava front collapse PDCs that generated 200 meters high light-brown plumes were also observed from July 1 to July 2.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), as of July 2, a total of 42,815 residents of Bicol Region are affected by the Mayon unrest.

Of this, 20,314 individuals are currently situated in 28 evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC also reported that at least P131,263,299.97 worth of financial and in-kind assistance were provided to the region, including family food packs, tents, sleeping kits, among others. with reports from Justin Ilano –cf
