Mayor Sara Duterte to witness 39th MassKara Festival

BACOLOD CITY — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio will witness some of the highlights of the 39th MassKara Festival during her scheduled visit here on October 27.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia made this announcement Sunday night after he got a confirmation from the presidential daughter’s chief of staff, Raul Nadela Jr.

“Mayor Sara though is not a first-timer in MassKara because I remember many years ago I was surprised to see her among the crowd as she came incognito,” Leonardia said.

She then wanted to observe and learn how Bacolod runs the MassKara Festival, he added.

Leonardia also said the Davao City mayor’s presence will make the festival more exciting and more star-studded.

“Being the brightest political star today after her father, the anticipation of her visit alone makes this year’s celebration interesting and colorful,” the Bacolod mayor said.

President Rodrigo Duterte himself might also come to Bacolod anew to join the festivity for the third time since he assumed the presidency in 2016.

During her visit, the lady mayor will witness the schools category of the street and arena dance competition at the Bacolod Public Plaza on Saturday afternoon.

She will also join the second night of the Electric MassKara at the Tourism Strip along Lacson Street and will proceed to the Bacolod City Government Center, where a K-Pop concert, featuring Rion Five, will entertain the crowd.

The 2018 MassKara Festival, which runs for 21 days, started on October 8, with the highlights set on Oct. 26 to 28.

Sunday’s events will feature the much-anticipated street and arena dance competition barangay category, a spectacle that President Duterte also witnessed last year. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
