DAVAO CITY — “I am overwhelmed. I am at a loss for words.”
This was the reaction of presidential daughter and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio over the result of the latest Pulse Asia Survey on top senatorial preferences in the 2019 midterm elections in which she ranked fourth among probable contenders.
In the survey conducted June 15-21 of 1,800 registered voters, Mayor Sara ranked third to fifth place with 46.2 percent level of support.
She followed Senator Grace Poe with 67.4 percent, former Senator Pia Cayetano with 55.7, and Senator Cynthia Villar in the second and third with 50.1 percent.
Duterte-Carpio obtained an awareness level of 95 percent behind Poe with 99 percent; Cayetano with 97 percent; and, Villar with 96 percent.
The mayor repeatedly denied plans of seeking a higher position in the next elections. Speculations of her running for Senate stemmed following the organization of Tapang at Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines which she leads, together with Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
The mayor also founded the Hugpong ng Pagbabago, a newly-registered regional political party.
Last week, the mayor said she does not have plans to leave Davao. (Lilian Mellejor/PNA)
