Meralco explains bills anew amid confusion among customers

The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is now doubling efforts to explain the latest electric bill issued to its customers amid confusion on why charges have increased. Meralco explained that the estimated bill last March and April need not be paid yet, and customers will just have to wait for the June billing which is based on actual reading.

“Iniisa-isa na namin ‘yan kaya nagkakaroon tayo ng cueing sa mga business centers. Marami tumatawag sa call center. We recognize na we need to continue explaining (We have done it one by one. That’s why we have cueing in business centers. Many are also calling up. We recognize that we need to keep explaining),” Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga explained.

“Ang bayad po ninyo for June if you have paid the ¼ that is pagdating ng July, you have installment payment, mayroon po kayong regular billing ng July (The payment for June, if you have paid the ¼, that is, by July you have the installment payment, you’ll have regular billing for July),” Meralco Commercial operations Head Agnes Macob added.

The company assured there would be no disconnection until the end of August. Consumers may pay in installment or in full the accrued bills during the quarantine period until August. It added that it may extend the deadline of payment in case consumers still have problems on paying bills. – Report from Naomi Tiburcio
