MIAA: Don’t board plane when positive for COVID-19

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is appealing to air passengers to avoid traveling when they have a positive COVID-19 result.

MIAA data shows 138 individuals have been intercepted at security and airline checkpoints of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals 1,2, and 3 from January to April 15, 2021, for attempting to travel despite testing positive for the disease.

The MIAA said the majority of the intercepted passengers were bound for foreign destinations. It added that the most common alibi of COVID-positive passengers is not knowing their test result before arriving at NAIA.

Some of them also claimed that they were not able to check their results and they were told by recruiters to wait for their test results at the airport.

“Let us not take chances. The airport security and airline check-in staff will always check on your requirements and truth will be known in the process,” MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal warned.

Meanwhile, the MIAA assured the public of the strict implementation of security and safety protocols, including disinfection conducted in all terminals and facilities. – MIAA/AG-jlo
