A militiaman was arrested with approximately P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu during an anti-drug operation in this city, police reported Monday.

Colonel Santiago Pascual, deputy regional director for operations of Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9), identified the suspect only as “Jal,” 59, a resident of Barangay Buton, Hadji Mohammad Ajul town, Basilan province.

Operatives of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit (RDEU) apprehended Jal during a buy-bust operation around 11:04 p.m. Sunday at P. Reyes Street in Barangay Zone 2.

Confiscated from Jal’s possession were a kilo of suspected shabu, packed in a transparent plastic bag, and the buy-bust money.

During interrogation, Jal claimed he was tasked to deliver the package in exchange for a P100,000 delivery fee. He declined to disclose the source of the illegal drugs.

The suspect is detained at the Zamboanga City Police Office while authorities prepare charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) announced that 10 barangays in Isabela City, Basilan, were recently declared drug-cleared by the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC).

Maharani Gadaoni-Tosoc, PDEA-9 director, said the ROCBDC made the declaration last week after thoroughly evaluating the barangays’ compliance with the requirements set under the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.
