MMC prohibits fireworks in NCR in welcoming 2021

Metro Manila mayors have agreed to prohibit the individual use of any fireworks in welcoming 2021.

Under the Metro Manila Council (MMC) Resolution, violators of the said directive will face penalty.

The mayors believe that using fireworks may result to mass gathering amidst the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. They added that pyrotechnic-related accidents may cause increased capacity in hospitals as well as increased transmission of COVID-19.

The resolution is in congruence with the Department of Health (DOH) initial advice to use alternative noisemakers in welcoming the New Year. -PTV News
