MMC recommends NCR quarantine classification to PRRD

By Pearl Gumapos

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos said on Thursday (May 13) that the members of the Metro Manila Council  (MMC) have come up with new recommendations for the quarantine status to be imposed on May 15.

The MMC, however, agreed to keep the recommendations a secret, Abalos said in a released statement.

The MMC, whose members include the 17 Metro Manila mayors, met on May 12 with representatives from the Department of Health, National Economic Development Authority, and other government agencies.

In coming up with their latest recommendations, they considered factors such as hospital capacity, the arrival of vaccines, the decrease in the number of new COVID-19 cases, and present economic conditions.

“This same recommendation will be presented to the Inter-Agency Task Force at its meeting today, which in turn will be presented to President Rodrigo Duterte who has the final say on the matter,” Abalos said.

He assured the public that the recommendation reached by the MMC is beneficial to the residents of the National Capital Region.

He added  that they are “putting utmost importance [on] a balance between health and safety of the public and on the economy.”
