MMDA advises motorists to use alternate routes due to ‘Traslacion’

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised motorists to use alternate routes as several roads in Manila will be closed during the annual procession of the Black Nazarene.

The MMDA said in an advisory that the following roads would be closed to traffic on January 8 and 9, 2018:

Starting January 8 at 10 pm.:

  • Katigbak Drive and South Drive (one lane accesible to Manila and H2O Hotel)
  • Northbound lane of Quezon and Mc Arthur Bridge from Bonifacio Shrine onwards
  • Taft Avenue from Ayala Boulevard to Bonifacio Shrine

January 9, 2018 – 12 a.m.:

  • Stretch of Mc Arthur, Jones and Quezon Bridge
  • Roxas Boulevard from Katigbak Drive to T.M. Kalaw Street
  • Both lanes of Quezon Boulevard (Quiapo) will be closed to traffic from A. Mendoza/Fugoso Street and Espana Avenue/P. Campa Street for southbound and from Taft Avenue/Ayala Boulevard for northbound.

Light vehicles intending to pass the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard southbound should turn around to Anda Circle going to A. Soriano Avenue, turn to Gen. Luna Street to Burgos-Oras Street, turn left to T.M. Kalaw Street to Taft Avenue and head to point of destination.

Trucks and heavy vehicles traversing through Bonifacio Drive southbound may turn around Anda Circle going back to northbound lane of Road 10 to C-3 and head to point of destination.

Vehicles traveling along P. Burgos Street turn right to Finance Road to Ayala Avenue and head to point of destination.

Vehicles using Taft Avenue northbound may turn right to Ayala Boulevard and head to point of destination.

Vehicles coming from southern part of Manila intending to utilize the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard from T.M. Kalaw Street to P. Burgos Street turn right to T.M. Kalaw Street, turn left to Orosa Street going to Intramuros, turn left to A. Soriano Avenue and head to point of destination.

Vehicles coming from Quezon City using the stretch of Espana Avenue turn right to P. Campa Street, turn left to A. Mendoza Street, turn right to Fugoso Street, turn right to CM Recto Avenue or left to Nicanor Reyes Street, turn to CM Recto Avenue and head to point of destination.

Vehicles coming from Legarda Street turn right to CM Recto Avenue or turn left to Mendiola Street and head to point of destination

Vehicles coming from Caloocan City utilizing Rizal Avenue turn right to Fugoso Street or CM Recto Avenue and head to point of destination.

Buses using Taft Avenue northbound should turn right to Ayala Avenue and head to point of destination.

Vehicles coming from Reina Regente Street utilizing southbound lane turn right to San Fernando Street or make U-turn at Plaza Ruiz and head to point of destination.

Light vehicles intending to utilize the stretch of Bonifacio Drive and Roxas Boulevard southbound turn around to Anda Circle going to Del Pan or  Moriones and head to point of destination.

The route of the ‘Traslacion’ of the image of the Black Nazarene will be as follows:

  • Start: Quirino Grandstand
  • Turn right to Katigbak Drive
  • Drive straight to P. Burgos going to Jones Bridge
  • Turn right to Dasmarinas
  • Turn right again towards Plaza Santa Cruz
  • Turn left to Palanca Street
  • Turn left to Quezon Boulevard
  • Turn right to Arlegui Street
  • Turn right to Fraternal Street
  • Turn right to Vergara Street
  • Turn left to Duque de Alba
  • Turn left to Castillejos Street
  • Turn left to Farnecio Street
  • Turn left to Arlegui Street
  • Turn left to Nepomuceno Street
  • Turn left to Aguila Street
  • Turn right to Carcer Street
  • Turn right Hidalgo thru Plaza del Carmen
  • Turn left to Bilibid Viejo Street thru Puyat
  • Turn left to Guzman Street
  • Turn right to Hidalgo Street
  • Turn left to Bautista Street
  • Turn right to Globo de Oro thru under Quezon Bridge
  • Turn right to Palanca Street
