MMDA chairman orders investigation of two traffic enforcers in viral video

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos has ordered the investigation of two traffic enforcers who were caught in a video, which circulated online, allegedly extorting money from a motorcycle rider.

Abalos instructed the Traffic Discipline Office to identify the two enforcers in the viral video.

“We will never tolerate extortion, bribery, and other forms of corruption among our personnel. Those two traffic enforcers will be dealt with accordingly. Charges will be filed against them,” said Abalos, adding that the agency does not and will never condone such misconduct.

The video uploader branded the two traffic enforcers in Baclaran, Parañaque City, as ‘extortionists.’ The video did not clearly reveal the faces of the enforcers because it was taken from the top view.

In the video footage, one enforcer discreetly receives from a motorcycle rider what appears to be money, in exchange for what appears to be a drivers’ license.

Meanwhile, Abalos urged the public to report perceived illegal activities by MMDA employees.

“We call on the public to be on the lookout for erring traffic enforcers on the streets. Help us in weeding out these people as a way to better serve the public,” Abalos said.

“We shall not tolerate this wrongdoing among our ranks. I will not let anyone tarnish the image of the Authority,” he added. (MMDA) – jlo
