MMDA to implement one-truck lane policy on C2 Road

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will implement a one-truck lane policy along Circumferential 2 (C2) Road to reduce traffic congestion and prevent truck-related accidents following its approval by the Metro Manila Council (MMC) Thursday.

Under the approved MMC regulation, trucks plying C2 Road will be allowed only on one lane from Andalucia to Nagtahan Road and vice versa in Manila.

“This is aimed at preventing accidents and address heavy traffic caused by trucks along the thoroughfare,” MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said in a statement Friday.

After its approval, copies of the regulation will be distributed among the 17 Metro Manila mayors, who comprise the MMC, the policy-making body of the agency, for signature. The MMC is presided by the MMDA Chairman.

Under the one-truck lane policy, cargo trucks with a gross weight of more than 4,500 kilos will only be allowed to use the C2 Road’s third lane from the sidewalk except at Nagtahan, which is second lane from the median or center island.

One-truck lane policy is also being implemented along C5 Road, Katipunan Avenue, Congressional Road, Mindanao Avenue, and Roxas Boulevard.

Nearly 7,000 trucks and trailer trucks traverse along major roads with the average number of existing lanes at four lanes per direction based on the annual daily traffic data of the MMDA last year.

At least 155 damage to property incidents and eight injuries were reported along C2 Road based on the 2017 Metro Manila Accident Recording and Analysis System of the MMDA. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
