MANILA — Roads will not be closed to vehicular traffic during the 51st Asian Development Bank (ADB) Annual Meeting of Governors that will be held in Mandaluyong City from May 2 to 6, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
This as the MMDA advised that traffic congestion is expected in the Ortigas Business District and nearby areas for the duration of the meeting.
“The concentration area is only at the Ortigas Business District, Shangri-La and ADB,” MMDA Deputy Chairman Frisco San Juan Jr. said in a statement Monday.
The agency will deploy 1,474 personnel to manage traffic flow during the five-day meeting.
Members of the Task Group Traffic Management will provide personnel and equipment along the ADB dedicated route for delegates to ensure seamless movement from airport to billeting hotel, venues, and other engagement areas and vice versa, at the least inconvenience to the general public.
Stop-and-go schemes will be implemented on some intersections to give way to the convoy of the delegates.
Motorists are advised of occasional traffic disruptions along EDSA from Magallanes to Ortigas whenever the delegates’ convoys pass through from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Ortigas Center.
Convoys of delegates will go towards the Ayala and Shaw Boulevard flyover/tunnel and underpasses while traveling along EDSA. They will be directed to the yellow lane for public utility buses.
The inner lane of the yellow lane is designated as delegates’ path to and from destinations.
Intermittent stops are expected on Julia Vargas, ADB Avenue, San Miguel Avenue, Guadix, Bank Drive, Saint Francis Street in the Ortigas Business District area.
MMDA will also set up an ADB Special lane along Saint Francis Street and Bank Drive.
Motorists are advised to take alternate routes.
The ADB annual meeting is expected to gather 3,000 delegates, composed of finance and development ministers and central bank governors of the bank’s 67-member-economies. (PNA)
