MMDA opens zipper lane along Commonwealth for SONA

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is implementing a zipper lane along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City to mitigate the expected traffic congestion on Monday as President Rodrigo R. Duterte delivers his State of the Nation Address (SONA) later in the afternoon.

Vehicles from Quezon City Memorial Circle should turn right to Commonwealth Avenue and enter the zipper lane in front of Home Depot then exit to Sandiganbayan UTS then back to normal flow of traffic going northbound to Fairview.

“All vehicles may utilize this zipper lane,” MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said in a text message to the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

The agency has earlier announced that the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue from Tandang Sora to Batasan Road will be closed to traffic starting 12:01 a.m.

Motorists are advised to take the following routes:

Southbound: Fairview to Quezon Memorial Circle

  • Along Commonwealth Avenue, turn right to Fairlane Street, right to Dahlia Avenue, left to Lilac Street or Chestnut, right to Republic Avenue, Don Gregorio Road, Old Sauyo to Mindanao Avenue and vice versa.
  • Along Commonwealth Avenue, turn right to Regalado Avenue, right to Republic Avenue, Don Gregorio Road, Old Sauyo Road to Mindanao Avenue and vice versa

  • Along Quezon Memorial Circle, right turn to North Avenue, right turn to Mindanao Avenue, right to Old Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway to destination

The MMDA has also lifted the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVRP) or the number coding scheme today.
