MMDA postpones closure of Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge

MANILA — The closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge connecting Makati City to Mandaluyong City was postponed, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

“Our team just had a meeting with Rockwell and it was decided not to proceed with the bridge closure tomorrow (Thursday) so as to give them more time to disseminate the information to their residents and stakeholders. Will inform you of the revised schedule,” MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said in a text message to reporters late Wednesday.

The closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, connecting Estrella Street in Makati City to Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City, is expected to divert at least 100,000 vehicles to the Guadalupe Bridge, leading to further traffic congestion on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).

A new bridge which will have four lanes spanning more than 500 meters and costing around PHP1.2 billion is set to be constructed and expected to be completed by 2020. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
