MMDA to strictly enforce motorcycle lane starting Monday

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will strictly enforce the ‘yellow’ and motorcycle lanes along Epifanio delos Santos Ave. (EDSA) starting Monday (November 20).

Public utility vehicles such as buses, UV Express and jeepneys, will not be allowed to go outside the ‘yellow’ lane while private vehicles can enter the lane 100 meters before their exit.

The first lane from the sidewalk will serve as loading/unloading zone while the second lane will be exclusive to provincial and point-to-point (P2P) buses. Loading/unloading on the second lane will be strictly prohibited.

“MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim is committed to prioritizing and easing the burden of the riding public, that is why we need to fully enforce the traffic laws,” said MMDA Assistant General Manager for Planning Jojo Garcia.

A two-day dry run of the policy implementation will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday (November 20 and 21).

The stricter enforcement of the motorcycle lane starts on Wednesday (November 22).

Riders may overtake via the leftmost lane for efficient movement of motorcycles.

MMDA traffic constables will also carry placards to easily guide motorists. Riders caught disregarding the guidelines via no-contact apprehension will face a PHP500 fine
.
The MMDA expects improvement in the traffic flow along EDSA with the policy implementation.

“The agency’s target is to remove the image of EDSA as a parking lot and instead be a free-flowing road,” Lim said. (PNA)
