Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and concurrent MMFF Chairman Danilo Lim urged Filipino families to support this year’s film festival that would allow them to bond over the Christmas holidays by watching the movies together at home.

“Christmas won’t be complete without the MMFF which has been part of the Filipinos’ tradition. We may not enjoy films traditionally in cinemas because of the restrictions brought by the coronavirus disease pandemic but that will not stop us from bringing cheer to the Filipino families through the MMFF,” said Lim.

In partnership with Globe, Upstream and GMovies, this year’s MMFF makes use of the digital platform to bring Filipino films to the global audience. All 10 official entries will be streamed online beginning December 25, Christmas Day.

“MMFF 2020 will not be limited to Filipinos residing in the country but will allow overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to enjoy the festival on a legitimate platform, anywhere they are in the world. We are grateful to our partners for making the MMFF 2020 possible. We urge everyone to support the film festival,” said Lim.

In compliance with the health and safety protocols for COVID-19, regular activities such as Parade of Stars and the Gabi ng Parangal will also be streamed online.

The MMFF is an annual event held every Christmas organized primarily to promote and enhance the preservation of the Philippine cinema. Proceeds from the film festival go to a number of beneficiaries in the film industry.
