More areas in MM, nearby provinces suspend classes as ‘Gorio’ strengthens

MANILA, July 26 — More schools and local governments have been suspended classes Wednesday afternoon as “Gorio” intensified into a tropical storm.

The city governments of Manila and Quezon City announced on Twitter that afternoon classes from preschool to high school in both public and private schools have been suspended.

Classes in all levels in the provinces of Cavite and Bataan were also suspended. In Rodriguez, Rizal, classes from pre-school to senior high school, both public and private, were also suspended.

In its latest weather bulletin, state weather agency Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Gorio” slightly slowed down as it moves north-northwestward.

PAGASA said “Gorio” will enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over western Luzon and light to moderate rains over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Earlier, classes were also suspended in the cities of Caloocan and Malabon in all levels, both public and private.

Pre-school to senior high school classes in both public and private schools in the cities of Valenzuela and Navotas were also suspended.

The following schools have also announced suspension of classes: Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, Valenzuela City Polytechnic College, Our Lady of Fatima University Valenzuela (Preschool to High School), and De La Salle Araneta (all levels). (Alleia Liles Vicera (OJT)/PNA)
