More than 100 Pampanga barangays affected by flooding

A total of 103 barangays are still flooded in Pampanga due to the effect of previous typhoons, data from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office disclosed.

The flooding in the province has also been attributed to the opening of dikes, high tide, and flooding in some parts of northern region.

Barangay San Agustin in Candaba is reportedly submerged in the deepest flooding, reaching 11 to 14 feet, according to the PDRRMO.

Residents of Barangay San Gabriel in Macabebe shared that it is the first time their houses got swamped.

The local government of Macabebe has been planning to elevate the barangays, but floodwater may stay until Christmas due to continuous downpour.

“Ang ginawa ko ngayon dito sa Macabebe, nangutang sa Landbank ng ₱100 million kasi 12 barangays ang gusto ko munang magawa (I borrowed ₱100 million from Landbank because I want to repair 12 barangays here in Macabebe),” Macabebe Mayor Leonardo Flores shared.

Some residents in Pampanga are now seeking relief goods and medicines, following the impact of previous disasters despite having already received aid which they claim as insufficient.

However, Pampanga Governor Dennis Pineda said donations being sought under #PampangaNeedsHelp movement should instead be given to other provinces more gravely affected by calamities. – Report from Allan Francisco
