Motorcycle robber slain in San Pedro City

SAN PEDRO CITY, Laguna – An unidentified motorcycle robber was killed in a shootout with city police special reaction and mobile teams under a fly-over along Kamagong Street in Barangay San Vicente here at dawn Wednesday.

City police chief, Supt. Mark Anthony Andrade, in his report to Laguna Police Director Senior Supt. Kirby John B. Kraft, said the robbery incident was reported by 40-year-old technician Emerson Layco Santos, who sought assistance from the city police when the robber forcibly took his motorcycle at gunpoint.

Investigation disclosed that Santos was driving on his way home when the unidentified suspect, wearing black sweat shirt with hood and black six-pocket short pants, blocked his way and at gunpoint took his motorcycle then fled to the west direction.

Andrade immediately dispatched his police Special Reaction Team (SRT) and intelligence and mobile units in response to the robbery incident.

The police teams spotted the suspect while riding on the victim’s motorcycle along San Vicente Road in Barangay San Vicente, this city.

The law enforcers immediately flagged down the suspect, who instead of surrendering, drew a short firearm and opened fire.

One of the policemen, PO1 John Lester Olivera, was hit on the chest but was fortunately wearing a bullet proof vest.

Andrade said the suspect kept on shooting and hit the right front passenger glass window of the police vehicle. PO3 Roger Lionsid Berdin, who was on board the vehicle, fired back and hit the suspect.

The suspect was rushed to the Amante Hospital but was declared dead on arrival around 4:40 a.m. by Dr. Richard A. Dolleton. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
