Muntinlupa full swing in implementing Smoke Free Ordinance

The local government of Muntinplupa City, together with deputized Smoke-free Task Force (SFTF), will begin apprehending violators of the Comprehensive Smoke Free Ordinance starting September 12.

This is under the City Ordinance No. 17-072 and the Executive Order no. 26 of Malacañang, approved by the Muntinlupa City Council on March 6 to launch a SFTF to apprehend smokers and led by Mayor Jaime R. Fresnedi, Vice-Chair naman si Dr.Magdalena Meana, City Health Officer, and other members of the forum.

As a leeway period, from September 12 to October 12, an Oplan Sita will be established and all the violators that will be caught will not be fined instead, they will only receive a warning.

Starting October 13, a penalty of P2,500 or eight hours of community service will be imposed for those who’ll caught smoking in public places.

The ordinance also include an P8,000 fine or 14 hours of community service for those who’ll caught advertising cigarettes and selling them to minors.

The absolute no smoking ordinance applies to any following enclosed or confined public areas or places such as public and private offices, buildings, and outdoor areas. However, there are still designated smoking areas (DSAs) for business establishments.

San Juan, Mandaluyong, Caloocan, at Pateros have also implemented the no smoking ordinance in their respective cities. | (Tina Joyce Laceda – PTV)
