NAIA ready for summer

MANILA — Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal on Sunday assured the public that NAIA is ready for summer, following the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (PAGASA) termination of the northeast monsoon.

Monreal, in a press statement, said MIAA is expecting high volume of passengers travelling to several local destinations.

“I call local carriers plying domestic routes to make sure that we do not create long lines in our check-in counters due to shortage of people or delayed opening of their counters,” Monreal said. “Summer is a family matter. So there are parents travelling with their children. We should think of them,” he added.

MIAA recently completed the replacement of defective cooling coils and installed stand-alone aircondition units at NAIA Terminal 3.

“With this development, passengers can be assured of a convenient and relaxing atmosphere while waiting for their flights this summer season”, the airport chief said.

Over several months, the very hot temperature at Terminal 3’s domestic gates was a consistent complaint received by MIAA.

Monreal said the installation of more stand-alone units at the Terminal’s international gates is still in progress.

Meanwhile, the airport chief ordered the AGM Security to closely monitor taxi operations in the Terminals.

“We want a happy ending for all summer getaways. One sorry experience with an abusive taxi driver can spoil everything,” Monreal stated.

Monreal thanked the LTFRB and the I-ACT for partnering with MIAA to ensure a safe and orderly transport operations in NAIA, noting that the partnership “can be sustained for the benefit of the riding public”.

The AGM Security was further tasked to implement increased foot and mobile patrol, K9 visibility, manage traffic flow in Terminal premises and adjacent road networks and to intensify intelligence gathering.

The airport chief, on the other hand, ordered the four terminal managers to ensure that all vital facilities are working to avoid downtime.

Monreal added that upkeep of toilets is on MIAA’s top list, as NAIA comfort rooms are equipped with diaper changing tables for babies and toddlers, hand dryers and bidets.

Toilet papers, paper towels hand soaps and hand sanitizers are also a main feature in terminal comfort rooms, he said.

“This is a standard that we have adopted for our toilets,” Monreal said.

Due to the expected rush, the airpport chief issued several reminders to help passengers prepare for a hasslefree flight:

1) check your flight and date of departure. Make sure that you know which Terminal your flight is assigned to;
2) for international flights, be at the Terminal at least three (3) hours before departure time;
3) for domestic flights, be at the Terminal at least two (2) hours before the flight;
4) pack your own things and check your bags before going to the airport. Make sure that there are no prohibited items left inside your bag;
5) know airline regulations on baggagge allowance and conditions for promo flights;
6) The airline ticket is your contract with the airline. Report to them immediately any deficiency that you notice in your baggage;
7) obey airport rules and regulations. These are all intended for passenger safety;
8) For assistace and feedback, contact NAIA voice hotline at 877-1111 or its SMS hotline 0917-8396242 or visit MIAA FB and Twitter @MIAAGovPh (PR)
