Nat’l Info Convention 2018 gathers over 1,000 info officers across PH

MANILA — The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) through the Philippine Information Agency, launches the very first National Information Convention (NIC) 2018 in Davao City on February 19-21.

The event brings together more than 1,000 information officers from the national government agencies and LGUs, across the Philippines.

Carrying the theme, “Spurring Development and Empowering Communities through Information,” this event will bring together an estimate of 1,500 participants, mostly government information officers and including representatives from the national and local media, the academe, and communications and technology industries leaders.

The National Information Convention or NIC has been conceptualized with the primary aim of strengthening partnership between public and private sector communicators. The minds behind NIC also hope to start a movement where communicators model responsible sharing of information and use their platforms to inspire civic engagement.

Day one’s focus is on (1) understanding government programs and policies; (2) fostering a safe and healthy media environment; and (3) raising the bar of governance.

Day two will revolve around talks on (1) promoting responsible communication; and (2) developing a dynamic development communication strategy.

Day three will be filled with talks on (1) engaging the citizenry in nation-building. And there will be a launching of brand new communicators’ network, digital applications, and government services.

On the sideliines, there will be a Fireside Chat where participating agencies will showcase their services, products, and capabilities through a demonstration.

In the end, NIC is set to engage communicators to be instruments for nation-building and to contribute in fulfilling the government’s development agenda. (CG/ARB/PIA-CG)
