NCR 2022 poll bets join COC filing on first day

Several personalities have made official their 2022 election plans in Metro Manila during the first day of filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) on Friday (Oct. 1). 

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto filed his COC for another term before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office on Friday morning in a bid to continue the city government’s programs which were affected by the pandemic.

Former Pasig City Rep. Robert “Dodot” Jaworski filed his candidacy for vice mayor in Pasig after a pause in his political career.

Makati Mayor Abigail Binay is also seeking reelection under Makatizens United Party through her representative’s filing of her COC. Her camp denied claims that a rift between her and Junjun Binay prompted the formation of their own local party.

Rep. Ruffy Biazon formally joined the mayoral race in Muntinlupa, saying that a leadership transfer should not hinder “continuity and institutionalizing a good program.”

Mayor Rex Gatchalian, who is now serving his last term, will run as representative of Valenzuela’s first district. His brother Rep. Wes Gatchalian will be running for mayor.

Meanwhile, only a few individuals were seen on the first day of filing in Quezon City, including reelectionists, and first time aspiring candidates.  

Former broadcast reporter Doland Castro filed his COC for councilor of Quezon City District 1.
