NCR MECQ may cut workers’ daily income by ₱2.1B

Workers will lose a daily income amounting to around ₱2.1 billion if modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will be implemented anew in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Acting Economic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua said around ₱700 million daily income of workers have already been lost in Mega Manila under the current general community quarantine (GCQ).

Majority of the affected population are young workers who had a huge participation in the labor force of the country.

However, the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country rose when quarantine restrictions were eased during the second semester of 2020, while unemployment rate declined to 8.7 percent this fourth quarter. – PTV News
