NCRPO: Over 31K apprehended for violation of ordinances

MANILA — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has apprehended 31,189 violators of local ordinances in Metro Manila since June 13.

In a statement Thursday, the NCRPO said more than half of those apprehended, numbering 15,973 or 51.21 percent, have received a warning while 10,962 (35.15 percent) have been fined.

A total of 52 violators remain under custody, 33 of whom are under the Southern Police District (SPD) – which has jurisdiction over the cities of Makati, Taguig, Pasay,Paranaque,Pateros, Las Pinas and Muntinlupa.

Two violators are under custody with the Manila Police District (MPD) while 15 are under custody with the Quezon City Police District  (QCPD).

The apprehensions are for violation of the ban on public smoking (9,605) and other city ordinances (7,483) and minors violating curfew, (5,257); going half naked in public (4,532) and drinking in public (4,312).

The Eastern Police District (EPD), which covers the cities of Pasig, Marikina,Mandaluyong and San Juan,  posted the highest number of apprehensions at 13,851 followed by the Southern Police District (SPD) with 6,297 apprehensions. QCPD reported 4,677 apprehensions and MPD with 3,447.

The Northern Police District (NPD),  which covers the areas of Caloocan,Malabon,Navotas and Valenzuela, posted 2,917 apprehensions  for the period.

The NCRPO noted that there were no violators fined by the MPD but 2,573 were charged and 874 received warnings. For the same period, the NCRPO said no violator was charged by the NPD but warned 1,204 violators and while 1,703 were fined. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
