NCRPO forms teams to monitor, assess metro cops’ performance

MANILA — The performance of the police in Metro Manila will soon be scrutinized by inspectors who will also conduct random drug testing during inspection.

In a statement Tuesday, National Capital Regional Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Camilo Cascolan said the so called ‘S.T.R.I.K.E. teams’ will also quantify positive performance by personnel along with sanctions against erring policemen.

STRIKE which stands for Special Team of Regional Inspectors and Key Evaluators “will randomly inspect, monitor, evaluate and validate the deployment and utilization of police officers in the Metro,” the NCRPO said.

This move is in compliance with the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde to intensify “internal cleansing” in the PNP ranks.

Aside from conducting random drug testing during inspection, the team’s positive remarks will be credited for recognition and awards while any negative remarks will be used for disciplinary sanctions or even dismissal of erring police personnel.

Cascolan said he is confident that the creation of S.T.R.I.K.E. teams will both serve as motivation and caution to NCRPO policemen as it aims to recognize good deeds and sanction the bad.

Senior Supt. Benjamin Acorda, head of the NCRPO’s Regional Intelligence Division (RID) will lead one of the teams.

Each team will be composed of three members from the office of the RID, Regional Operations Division, Regional Personnel Records and Management Division, and representatives from Crime Laboratory NCR.

They will be inspecting police precincts, offices and units anytime soon. (PNA)
