NCRPO Promotes Cultural Sensitivity

In the verge of issues underlying the alleged profiling of Muslim students in the Metro, NCRPO under the leadership of its Regional Director, PMGEN Debold M. Sinas promoted cultural sensitivity among its men by spearheading a 3-day seminar on cultural sensitivity which started this 27th day of February 2020 in order to create an environment which promotes oneness despite diversity.

The seminar aims to make all the participants more sensitive to cultural issues in line with the PNP’s mandate to strengthen community engagement with high regard to the varying beliefs, customs, traditions and culture of the people in the Metro.

The seminar was attended by personnel from different frontline police offices and units primarily responsible in the maintenance of a healthy community relations.

NCRPO partnered with the University of the Institute of Islamic Studies of the University of the Philippines in the conduct of the aforementioned seminar. UPIIS is the face of scholarly and academic Muslim community and is the premier institute of Islamic Studies in the country.

“Borrowing the famous line from Indian lawyer Mahatma Gandhi, ‘Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.’ It is in this light that we endeavor to promote cultural sensitivity among our men to guarantee unity in our plight to achieve a more peaceful and safe Metro Manila for all.” Said PMGEN Sinas.

“The saying that it is not our differences that divide us but our inability to recognize, accept and celebrate those differences holds perpetual truth even in this modern era. Hence, TEAM NCRPO endeavors to continuously educate our men to be sensitive and respectful of other people’s culture, specifically today, with the culture of our Muslim brothers. This is just the start, we will be having a series of seminars to enable our police officers to deeply understand our community especially our Muslim brothers,” he added.
