NCRPO ready to respond to ‘Ompong’ emergencies

MANILA — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is ready to provide security and rescue persons in distress should Typhoon “Ompong” (international name Mangkhut) batter Metro Manila.

“As the National Capital Region Police Office aims for ZERO if not minimal casualty on the onset of the forcasted potential Super Typhoon “Ompong” considering that it will heavily affect our country mostly in Luzon area. Thus, the Team-NCRPO being proactive is all set and ready to provide security and even rescue operation for the people who will be in distress,” NCRPO head Police Director Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement Wednesday.

He added that all search-and-rescue personnel and equipment of the NCRPO are on standby and operational ready for possible deployment as the need arises.

“Consequently, I directed all District Directors, Chiefs of Office, Station Commanders and Field Commanders to remain vigilant and strengthen coordination with the local government units particularly with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office within your respective area of responsibility,” Eleazar added.

Although the typhoon is not expected to directly hit Metro Manila, the NCRPO chief is calling on the public to constantly monitor and always remain watchful of the weather. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
