MANILA — With thousands of students expected to flock to public schools in Metro Manila on June 3, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) announced that its operatives will be keeping a tight watch on all educational facilities in its areas of jurisdiction.

The five districts covered by the NCRPO are the Manila Police District (MPD), Quezon City Police District (QCPD), Northern Police District (NPD), Southern Police District (SPD), and Eastern Police District (EPD).

NCRPO chief, Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, said this will be done to ensure that no untoward incident would mar the school opening.

“A total 7,030 police officers and personnel will be deployed to secure the students returning to school. Of these, 2,074 will be deployed (to) various schools to man the so-called PADs (police assistance desks), which will be instrumental in keeping security and traffic discipline in the educational facilities,” Eleazar told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Tuesday.

He said these police officers will be backed up by beat and mobile policemen and 8,627 force multipliers from NGOs and local government units.

“I would like to rally everyone to close in on the vicinities of these schools. We have to secure all our pupils and students from criminals, such as pickpockets and snatchers,” Metro Manila’s top cop said.

He said police marshals will be deployed to secure passengers of buses, UV Express, taxis and jeepneys.

“We will be everywhere, especially our police detectives, who would secure students and other commuters inside buses, and passenger jeepneys,” Eleazar said.

“All police personnel assigned in PADs should coordinate with the Department of Education school authorities and local government officials,” he added.
