NDRRMC: 44 dead, 8 missing due to Agaton

Tropical Depression Agaton has left 44 individuals dead, eight missing, and eight injured, according to the April 13 report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

A total of 237,864 families or 688,539 individuals have been affected across nine regions, including 96,165 displaced persons, of which 64,759 are staying in 558 evacuation centers.

At least 12 towns have already declared a state of calamity in Region 11 and Caraga.

The estimated cost of damages to agriculture has already ballooned to P51,398,517, covering around 1,800 hectares of crops, while 341 houses were partially and totally damaged.

A total of 489 areas were reportedly flooded during the onslaught of Agaton in Regions 5, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, Caraga, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Forty-three landslide incidents were also recorded.

Around 200 road and bridge sections and 42 seaports were affected, with 8,706 passengers, 2524 rolling cargoes, and 21 vessels stranded.

As of 11:00 p.m. Tuesday, all Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals were lifted as Agaton weakened into a low pressure area with a threat of heavy rainfall that may last until Wednesday evening. 

Meanwhile, Typhoon Basyang left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday afternoon. –AG/gb
