NegOcc employers told to pay ‘kasambahay’ wage hike

BACOLOD CITY — Employers of domestic workers or “kasambahay” in Negros Occidental were reminded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to pay their employees’ monthly wage increase of PHP500 effective on Wednesday.

Head of DOLE-Negros Occidental, Mary Agnes Capigon, said their office has already been informed by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) 6 (Western Visayas) Secretariat of the wage order’s effectivity.

“We want voluntary compliance of the employers. We will disseminate information about the wage increase,” Capigon said.

Approved last March 27, Wage Order No. 3 provides a salary increase of PHP500 per month for the region’s “kasambahay”.

This means all domestic workers in Western Visayas are now entitled to receive a monthly wage of at least PHP4,000.
Wage Order No. 2 prescribed a monthly minimum wage rate of PHP3,500 after removing the classification of “kasambahay”.

All domestic workers should receive the same wage rate whether they are working in cities or different classes of municipalities.

Capigon said DOLE-Negros Occidental is open to receive complaints and reports on non-compliance among employers in the province.

“If there are issues and concerns, we will facilitate conciliation. Through our single-entry approach program, we call both parties and come up with a solution,” she added.
