NegOcc police forms team to probe strafing of broadcaster’s house

BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office through the Talisay City Police Station has formed a special investigation team on the strafing incident at the residence of radio broadcaster Reynaldo “Rey” Siason on Sept. 19.

Siason said on Monday, policemen have been coordinating with him in the course of their investigation, adding that they are now pursuing a lead.

The four-man probe team is composed of Inspector Joebel Niturada, deputy chief of Talisay City Police, as team leader; Senior Police Officer 4 Frankie Paciente, assistant team leader; and Senior Police Officer 2 and Police Officer 2 Jheeryl Pedrajas, members.

Siason, a veteran journalist who is an anchorman of 107.7 FM Muews Radio Negros, thanked Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, director of Police Regional Office-Western Visayas, and Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil, director of Negros Occidental Police, for their speedy response to his case.

At around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, unidentified men on board two motorcycles fired at the Siason residence at Carmela Valley Homes Subdivision in Barangay Zone 12-A.
Siason, who said the attack could be related to his work as radio broadcaster, was not around when the shooting happened.

Only his daughter, mother-in-law and other family members were home. No one was hurt.

Investigators found a bullet shell of a caliber .45 pistol outside his house as well as seven fragments, including those on the second floor.

Bulalacao, in an earlier statement, said the police was conducting a thorough investigation on the strafing incident.

“We assure Mr. Siason that we will get to the bottom of this incident so that the perpetrators will be arrested,” he said, adding that the police will “ensure that those responsible will have to face the consequences of their criminal act.”

Both the Negros Press Club and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP)-Bacolod have issued separate statements condemning the incident. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
