BACOLOD CITY — Negros Occidental is partnering with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) to strengthen the province’s tourism linkages with Taiwan.

Christine Mansinares, provincial supervising tourism operations, said on Wednesday that during a recent visit of MECO officials in Bacolod City, they asked for a briefing on what Negros Occidental can offer and visited some tourism sites in the province.

The organization is strengthening the promotion of Philippine tourism in Taiwan, she added.

“A business-to-business program is being proposed involving our tour operators to closely link us with Taiwan for further tourism exchanges,” Mansinares said.

She also said that MECO offered to facilitate the participation of Negros Occidental in the tourism fair and business mission in Taiwan this year.

The MECO team, which visited the province on April 7, was headed by its chairman and resident representative Angelito Banayo.

They attended an economic briefing led by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Lina Sanogal, and Executive Assistant to the Governor Joy Ogan.

The private sector was represented by Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Alfredo Barcelona and Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Roberto Montelibano.

The MECO has offices in Makati City in the Philippines, and Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung in Taiwan.

It facilitates the link between the Philippines and Taiwan through active cooperation and increased exchanges focused on tourism, investments, labor, and educational and scientific endeavors.
