NegOcc’s La Castellana NHS eyes ‘Brigada Eskwela’ Hall of Fame award

LA CASTELLANA, Negros Occidental — The La Castellana National High School (LCNHS) here is eyeing this year’s Hall of Fame Award as the country’s “Brigada Eskwela Best Implementer Mega School (Secondary Level)”.

A Hall of Fame Award is given to schools consistently awarded as Best Implementing School for three consecutive years.

School principal Tressa Elbanbuena attributed their national award to the dedication of teachers and students, in collaboration with their partners.

“Our hearts are filled with happiness. The warm presence of our partners motivates us to further do our best in making our school conducive for learning,” she said.

On Monday, the LCNHS launched the 2018 Brigada Eskwela a week ahead of the kick-off date set by the Department of Education (DepEd),
with hundreds of volunteers from both the government and private sectors joining the activity.

The LCNHS is included in the Mega School Category, referring to schools with teachers numbering 51 and above.

The 2018 Brigada Eskwela, themed “Pagkakaisa para sa Handa, Ligtas at Matatag na Paaralan tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan”, has been originally scheduled on May 21-25.

The DepEd, however, moved the national simultaneous activity to May 28 to June 2 to give way to the opening of the” Oplan Balik Eskwela” in Marawi City this week.

LCNHS decided to follow the original schedule since under Department Order No. 85, regional offices may opt to start any time after the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

The launch was attended by Provincial Schools Division Supt. Portia Mallorca, Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan.

Nicor-Mangilimutan assured the LCNHS of continued support from the local government.

The mayor said the municipal government has been extending assistance to all schools in the municipality, especially during Brigada Eskwela.

“The local government unit plays a vital role in this endeavor, and La Castellana is very strong in implementing the special education fund,” she added.

Brigada Eskwela or the National Schools Maintenance Week aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort, and resources to prepare public school facilities for the opening of the school year in June.

For school year 2018-2019, classes in all public schools will open on June 4. (PNA)
