Negros Occidental cops destroy illegal firecrackers

BACOLOD CITY — Several police stations in Negros Occidental seized and destroyed illegal firecrackers on New Year’s eve as shown in posts in their respective social media accounts.

Around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, personnel of Escalante City Police Station in the north, together with a team of from the Bureau of Fire Protection, destroyed the confiscated items in front of the station.

Late afternoon of the same day, a team from Kabankalan City Police Station in the south seized firecrackers without permits in Barangay Magballo.

Personnel led by Senior Inspector Edgar Tonico Jr., deputy chief of police for administration, found the illegal firecrackers with an estimated street value of PHP30,000 around 3 p.m.

The firecrackers included small “trianggulos,” “five star,” “super lolo” “bawang,” “camara,” whistle bomb, “kwitis,” and “katay.” The confiscated items were also destroyed.

Around 10:30 p.m., In Manapla town, also in the north, the police led by officer-in-charge Senior Inspector Julius Caesar Colado took possession of the firecrackers sold outside the designated firecracker selling area in Barangay 2.

The Philippine National Police had earlier identified Piccolo, Pop Pop, Goodbye Philippines or Crying Bading, Yolanda or Goodbye Napoles, Watusi, Pla-Pla and Giant Kuwitis as illegal firecrackers.

These firecrackers, except for watusi, have explosives content of more than 0.2 grams. (PNA)
