Negros Oriental governor dies

Negros Oriental Governor Carlo Jorge “Guido” Reyes has passed away on Wednesday, May 31.

He died of a terminal illness at a hospital in Metro Manila.

In a video statement, Provincial Administrator Atty. Karen Lisette Molas said she received the news of Reyes’ death through Vice Mayor Eunice Reyes.

“I have not been authorized by the family to disclose any other details as to the circumstances of his illness and death,” Molas said.

Reyes will be replaced by Manuel Sagarbarria Jr.

“I officially informed him of this incident and I turned over to him the programs and projects of then Governor Guido Reyes,” Molas added.

Reyes, 62, was the second governor who died during incumbency in the province this year.

He was previously the provincial vice governor who succeeded the seat of former governor Roel Degamo, following the latter’s assassination on March 4. – ag
