New city councilor assumes post in Davao

DAVAO CITY — Newly-appointed City Councilor Carmelo Clarion will attend his first session on Tuesday after taking oath before Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday at City Hall.

In an interview with the press, Clarion vowed to address the needs of the barangays in his district especially on water supply in elevated areas.

Clarion is the 8th councilor for the city’s third district.
“I’d like to take some time and go around the 82 barangays of the third district to know what they need, but for now I can see that there is a need of potable water,” he said.

He said some areas in Toril lack supply of water because it cannot reach to elevated or remote areas where water is scarce.

Duterte-Carpio explained that Clarion was chosen to help the barangays having served as a barangay captain for eight years prior to his appointment.

“There was a discussion among the members of Hugpong  Tawong Lungsod as to the replacement of Vice Mayor Al-ag after he assumed the Vice Mayorship, and then it came out that it was better to choose a barangay captain to address issues in the grassroots level,” the mayor said.

She is confident that Clarion will help in legislating issues to help improve the situation not only in the third district but the entire city on matters of security and development, and public service.

Clarion said he is ready to take the challenge of the mayor to improve the city and give better services to the Dabawenyos.

“Since the party chose me and the mayor showed her confidence in me I am willing to accept all the challenges and to take this responsibility,” he said.

Clarion was the Barangay Captain of Barangay Mulig in Toril District before he was appointed as the replacement for Vice Mayor Bernard Al-ag who assumed office as the new Vice Mayor after Paolo Duterte resigned last December 25. (Funny Pearl Gajunera/PNA)
